My daughter’s 5th birthday was yesterday. 5 years! I can’t believe I’ve managed to keep a human being alive and well for 5 years (most of the credit goes to my wife, of course). Sometimes, it feels like it’s been about 5 hours. I can remember every detail of July 28, 2004 like it was yesterday. Other times, it feels like it’s been 500 years.
I really love this age. She starts kindergarten in a few weeks, and she’s been practicing her counting and reading to get ready. She’s got such a personality. She’s actually become one of my best friends. It’s funny: sometimes during the day when something goes wrong, I think, ”I wish my kid was here. She’d understand.” Some people are “baby” people…they love having infants around. Not me. I’ll take a pre-schooler that you can have an actual conversation with any day.
