There was no fanfare. There was no big announcement. There was no massive ad blitz to launch a re-branding campaign. In fact, most of us would probably have never realized the dramatic statement made by Viacom’s MTV Networks today without the eagle eye of Perez Hilton.

MTV’s logo has not changed much since the Moon Man first landed on August 1, 1981 … until today … when the simple tag line “Music Television” underneath the MTV letters disappeared.

Finally, the network has acknowledged what all of us realized years ago — it’s no longer about the music, it’s about Tween Reality Television. I wouldn’t quite say today is our generation’s version of “the day the music died,” but we’ll always long for the original VeeJays and the suspense waiting for Michael Jackson or Madonna’s new video. Goodbye, old friend.

Let me admit upfront that I did not see every commercial during last night’s Super Bowl XLIV, and I’ll probably never take the time to watch them all online. I did see a few really good ones from Budweiser; however, I was disappointed by E-Trade and Doritos. But, in my opinion, CBS produced two of the best spots during The Big Game:

My pick for #1 – NCIS “Head Slap – Okay, I’m biased as an NCIS fan and, if you’re not familiar with the show, you may not get the humor.

My pick for #2 – Letterman Promo with Oprah & Jay Leno – Very topical, and a good start for Jay to begin rehabilitating his image.

And, #3 may never have aired. I didn’t see it during the game and pre-game hype said this one was “banned” from the game. But, it still might be one of the better spots Budweiser has produced.

As you can see from my blog post below, I nailed three out of four key Grammy predictions last week. Kings of Leon won Record of the Year and Zac Brown won Best New Artist.

I should have gone with my gut instincts for Song of the Year. Beyonce’s Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) was definitely one of last year’s biggest songs; but, I didn’t think it would win in the writer’s category. Kudos.

Based on the Vegas betting odds, if you wagered $100 in each of the categories I listed below, you would have won $400 net following my predictions.

You’re welcome

If you watched the Grammys, please leave your comments below. Did you like the Michael Jackson tribute? What about that 3D nonsense? How was the Bon Jovi set? Who was your favorite performance? Best & Worst dressed?

Join the discussion below, or on our Facebook page.
